Eufaula’s 3rd Annual Art Walk will be October 24-25 in downtown Eufaula. The theme this year is “Look Around You, Wild Flowers.” Board members have been canvassing Eufaula to find out if businesses want to participate. Artists and businesses need to remember the deadline this year to participate is October 1. There will be more advertising than usual. During Art Walk this year mobile classrooms will be hooked together and set up to create a performance area in a blocked off area in Eufaula. Musicians will take turns performing under our big tent, for a $75 People's Choice Award. There will be 6-10 musicians located throughout town singing and picking. Eufaula will have 10 young artists in a Drum Ballet Group from Hope , Arkansas performing under the guidance of Zinse Agginie. Zinse has been teaching in Eufaula the last 4 years and has a drumming troupe called Eufaula djembi drummers. Some may have seen them at last years Art Walk or on the sidewalks in Eufaula during events. The Hope Drum Ballet group will be performing at the Creek Nation Eufaula Indian Boarding School on Thursday night as part of a cultural exchange between the two communities. Our local djembi drummers will get to practice with the Hope group too. Some of the Hope group performed for the opening of the Bill Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock . This performance can be viewed at www.drumballet.com A side note to djembi lessons offered this summer is the classes were advertised for beginners. Three grannies showed up for lessons and they have been practicing with other grannies awaiting Zinse’s return. Eufaula now has a beginners group of djembi drumming grannies learning to play. Eufaula Area Arts is trying to put together an open mic for young performers to read, recite and sing. Recommendations to help make this a success are being reviewed. Janiece Vest of State Farm has volunteered to sponsor a $50 prize for a People’s Choice Award for this Youth Open Mic Event. Calls about Art Walk have been coming in since the spring so there should be between 40 and 50 visual artists. Remember there is a juried entry for artists. All artwork has to be original. Artists from previous years need only apply. Artists who have already applied and were in previous Art Walks are Jon Tiger, Suellen Young, Lynn Melton, Jackie Nowlin, Deloras Frederick, Jackie Goss and C.C. Pucket. Visual artists will also have a $75 People’s Choice Award. All artists’ applications should be turned into Libby’s on 139 North Main in Eufaula. Jon Tiger and Will Harjo will represent the Creeks at Bank of Eufaula. Will Harjo will also be a demonstrating artist. Lynn Melton will be a demonstrating artist also. Sailing Horse Vineyard will have a Wine Tasting Garden . Friends of Rentiesville Blues will be cooking down home food for sale. Selby Minner will charm everyone playing her guitar at the Meet and Greet starting at 7:15 on Friday. The Meet & Greet will bring Eufaula Arts members, local business people and artists together to have a big brainstorm party with plenty of food and drink. Foresee Ready Mix is helping to sponsor the Meet & Greet so far. Anyone wanting to sponsor a food tray, let us know. After Art Walk is over at 3:00 Will Hill, famous Creek storyteller will be at the Eufaula Indian Community Center (old skating rink) at 3:30 Saturday to entertain kids.
